About the author

Gianni Riotta was born and raised in Palermo, Sicily. His father, Salvatore, was an editor atĀ Giornale di SiciliaĀ and had Riotta accompany him on trips across the island. Riotta was editor ofĀ Raiā€™s Tg 1, the leading Italian TV-news program, andĀ Il Sole 24 Ore, the Italian financial daily newspaper. A former columnist atĀ Corriere della SeraĀ in New York, he now writes forĀ La Repubblica. He has contributed to many publications, includingĀ The New York Times,Ā The Washington PostĀ and theĀ Financial Times. Riotta has published two novels set in Sicily:Ā Prince of the CloudsĀ (Farrar, Straus and Giroux) andĀ The Lights of AlboradaĀ (HarperCollins). Riotta teaches at Princeton University and is the dean of the journalism school at Luiss University in Rome.
